Jason AngusChief Operating OfficerThe Hilb Group of Virginia
Jason Angus was the founder, and President of Venture Specialty Insurance (VSI). In 2011, VSI was acquired by the Hilb Group and Jason was appointed as Hilb Group’s Chief Marketing Officer. In 2014, Jason was named Business Insurance Magazine’s 40 under 40 brokers. In 2017, Jason was appointed as the EVP and Chief Growth Officer. Jason is currently responsible for business operations across the Hilb Group’s office locations nationwide as Chief Operating Officer. Jason earned a BA from Hampden-Sydney College and a MBA from the Mason School of Business at The College of William & Mary.
P. Marshall FlemingPresident & Chief Executive OfficerBankers Insurance, LLC
Mr. P. Marshall Fleming is President and CEO of Bankers Insurance, LLC, based in Glen Allen, Virginia. He joined the company in 2001 when his agency, Welton, Duke & Hawks, was acquired by Bankers Insurance. He has served in his current role since 2006 and has been in the insurance industry for over 45 years.
Bankers Insurance is an independent insurance agency selling commercial and personal insurance, risk management services and employee benefits. The company has divisions specializing in transportation, energy dealers, agribusiness, colleges, universities, medical malpractice, banking and financial institutions.
Mr. Fleming received his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech and currently serves on the Board of Directors for its Pamplin College of Business.
Joe HarrowRegional PresidentTowne Insurance
Joe has over 30 years of experience in the banking and insurance industries. He began his career as a private bank lending officer at SunTrust Bank in Williamsburg, VA, where he has lived since 1987. In 1994, he began his insurance career when he joined Middle Peninsula Insurance Agency. The agency was sold to Towne Insurance in November of 2018.
Joe has been very active in the Williamsburg community and the insurance industry for several years. He has served on and chaired several non-profit boards in Williamsburg. He is a past board member of Virginia Company Bank. He has been active in the insurance industry as a speaker while also serving on several insurance company advisory boards. He is a past board member of the IIAV.
Joe is currently a Regional President of Towne Insurance. He also serves on the Towne Insurance advisory bank board in Williamsburg.
Joe is a 1986 graduate of Randolph Macon College. Joe's hobbies include golf, tennis, reading and many other outdoor activities. Joe and his wife, Leanne, live in Williamsburg.
David SchaeferPresident & Chief Executive OfficerAHT Insurance
David L. Schaefer joined Armfield, Harrison & Thomas (AHT) in 1987. He is the practice leader and founder of AHT’s Technology Practice as well as founding the firm’s Management Liability Practice. AHT’s Technology Practice is one of the largest independent technology insurance and risk management consulting practices in the United States. Tillinghast Towers-Perrin’s annual Directors & Officers liability report consistently ranks AHT as one of the top ten brokers in the U.S. for the placement of management liability insurance programs. AHT’s Information Technology client portfolio exceeds 750 companies and is believed to be one of the largest concentrations of this type of business in the nation.
He is the principal architect of a D&O loss prevention program, Ensuring Integrity, for public companies designed specifically to reduce the likelihood and cost of losses, producing a very favorable impact on the escalating premiums and diminished coverage terms publicly traded companies faced for their D&O liability insurance programs during the last hard insurance market cycle.
Mr. Schaefer graduated from Wittenberg University in 1984 with a B.A. Degree majoring in both Business Administration and Political Science/Pre-Law. David’s previous experience, before joining Armfield, Harrison & Thomas in 1987, included working for McDonnell Douglas Corporation in their Information Systems Group and on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant for a Member of The United States House of Representatives in the 98th and 99th Congresses.
Mr. Schaefer is a graduate, with highest honors, of the USF&G School of Insurance and has obtained the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) from the Insurance Institute of America. He is one of the first recipients of the Professional Liability Underwriter’s Society’s (PLUS) Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation.
Mr. Schaefer has participated in panels across the country and written many briefs on the evolving and unique exposures that exist for technology applications, government contractors, management liability and international exposures and how to best manage the risks. Over the years he has been instrumental in assisting many firms with the design, treatment and placement of their corporate risk management and insurance programs. He represents a variety of firms around the country and the world in this capacity.
Mr. Schaefer has testified before committees of both the United States Senate and U.S. House of Representatives and has advised the Office of Management and Budget about corporate risk management and related insurance issues.
Mr. Schaefer lives in Leesburg, Virginia with his wife and four children. He is active with his son’s Boy Scout Troop. He enjoys landscape design, shooting, water skiing, camping, swimming, fitness related activities and is currently pursuing his second degree black belt in Tae kwon do.
Troy SuterPresident & Chief Executive OfficerLD&B Insurance & Financial Services
Troy began his insurance career in 1991 in Newark, NJ with Everest Reinsurance Company (formerly Prudential Reinsurance Company) where he attained manager level in the Direct Treaty Underwriting Division. He left reinsurance in 1996 and joined the Shomo & Lineweaver Insurance Agency in Harrisonburg where he served as both an agent and the Personal Lines Manager. In 2000 Troy founded Covenant Insurance Services, Inc., a full service independent insurance agency also located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Troy sold Covenant to LD&B Insurance and Financial Services in February, 2008 and joined the LD&B team. He has served in several capacities at LD&B, currently as President and CEO. Troy is also a member of LD&B’s Board of Directors.
Troy graduated Summa Cum Laude from James Madison University in 1991 as an Honor Scholar with a B.S. in Economics and a second major in English. While at Everest Reinsurance Company he earned his Associate in Reinsurance designation (1994) and Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter designation (1995).
Troy is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Harrisonburg – Massanutten. He served on the board of directors and as president of First Night Harrisonburg. Troy currently serves as a board member of AVA Care of Harrisonburg and the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia
